As lovely of grain as it is engaging in execution, this Tajima sitter embraces many of the organic and implied space concepts that are found in his friend’s, Hiroyuki Tokutomi, compositions. Deft curves and wicked edges abound, accenting the overall sense of the natural through opposition. The implied space that is seen on the left from the smoker’s perspective, receives an additional boost from Tatu’s election to run with a dual stain. Usually if one sees a plateau rim (and what plateau!), odds are you will find a matching ruggedness on the mount. Rather than follow the crowd, Tajima-san left the mount smooth to both enhance continuity, and further draw the eye to the event horizon created to the port. Cool stuff!
