As a student of Poul Ilsted, it should be no surprise that Manduela Riger-Kusk has learned the art of adding panels into her pipe designs, as Poul is by and large considered the master of the paneled pipe. With this piece, I am now wondering whether the student's ability has exceeded the teacher's. WOW! The paneling is stone cold perfect. You could spend hours going over this piece with a micrometer and still come away impressed. The way the sharpened lines effortlessly flow from shank to stem is equally impressive. The olive toned Ebonite is as beautiful as it is unique, particularly in combination with the Boxwood band and deep ruby finish. If you have a weakness for forward canted featherweights, I imagine this piece should be quite difficult to pass up.
