DESCRIPTION: At first, I didn’t really like this pipe, but the more I looked at, or more accurately, into it, the more intriguing I found it. There seems to be purpose, some sense of order behind the seemingly random placement of carved, intertwined laces, strips of rawhide, noodles, whatever. Looking deeply, you’ll find interesting shapes and symbols embedded in the stochastic matrix, but pay attention, because it’s an often fleeting awareness, and what you thought you saw quickly morphs into something else. Having spent some time getting comfortable with the concept of this piece, I find I actually like it quite a lot. Whoever gets this one will have a great conversation piece, and, I’m sure, a delightful smoke. It’ll be fun to watch its hue darken through years of enjoyable puffing.
